Celebrations for the God particle
GENEVA: To cheers and standing ovations, scientists at the world's
biggest atom smasher claimed the discovery of a new subatomic particle
on Wednesday, calling it "consistent" with the long-sought Higgs Boson— popularly known as the " God particle" — that helps explain what gives all matter in the universe size and shape.
'Boson' (honor of Satyendra Nath Bose) and 'fermion' (honor of Enrico Fermi) etc have been accepted as common nouns in scientific parlance, hence no need to capitalize their initial letters. All particles that have integral spin quantum number are called "boson". For example, 3N force is expanded as 3 newton, and not 3 Newton - here "newton" is not capitalized to honor Sir Issac Newton. Similarly 'F' in 'fermion' is not capitalized to honor Fermi, 'B' in 'boson' is not capitalized to honor Bose - as those are particles. This is the practice followed in all good text books and scientific journals. This is because, just like kilogram or second, newton is a unit. I have been a researcher at CERN and Fermi Lab. People in scientific community actually respect and acknowledge S N Bose's contributions. They respect S N Bose, because they actually understand Bose-Einstein Statistics, Bose-Einstein Condensation etc. About Higgs, yes, he predicted that there should be a fifth kind of field to account for mass of electrons and other particles in equations of Weak Nuclear force. And the quantum unit of every field is a particle. And particle can have either integer or non-integer spin quantum number. Higgs particle was predicted to have integer spin, hence it falls in the category of bosons and not fermions. PS: Higgs research is independent and Prof Bose (father of boson) is not related to this work. In scientific community, Prof Bose is well recognized for his works. .

Hey friends I know you all are also worried like me about the IITJEE-2013 pattern...Really it has become a great mess..It has increased burden 10times on the students...Till this year the pattern was something like this....
The student has to qualify both the IIT exams conducted in April..And at the time of admission the +2 board marks of the student were considered on the basis of minimum percentage required, set as per the rules of IIT..
The students fulfilling all the conditions got admission in IIT's.But from this year the new pattern is formatted by the HRD Ministry. The new pattern gives a great importance to the student's academic performance i.e.
from this year board percentage will also be considered on percentile basis.
From next year two exams would be conducted, one of which would be in April 2013. Its not sure that the student qualifying the pre-exam would be eligible for the main exam. This will be decided on the basis on board percentage on percentile basis. The top 20% students from each board would be eligible for giving the main exam.
Hence the overall pressure on the students has been increased, because now students have to study harder to secure best marks in their in +2 boards.....
